Cathedral Gorge, after the fires but before the cyclones, 2017

Chloe BARTRAM

Cathedral Gorge, after the fires but before the rains, Newman, Western Australia.

Taken after fires blazed through the areas surrounding Newman, caused by the combination of lightening, dryness and incredibly high temperatures, Cathedral Gorge stands blackened and stripped bare but still buzzing with life.

Humans have left their mark on the Pilbara, from Wanna Munna to Roy Hill. Mother Earth provides, giving us the resources to light our homes and drive our cars. She has personally given my family opportunities that we can never repay.

As fire consumes all in it's path as does humans desire to devour the earth. When will we stop and realise that the control is not in our hands?
